Holy tuesday

Mark 11:20-25

20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”
22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.
23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

It’s Tuesday morning and Jesus and the disciples are headed back into the city of Jerusalem. On their way in, they pass the withered fig tree that Jesus cursed on Monday. Jesus uses this moment to teach on the importance of faith expressed in what we declare and ask. Jesus points out that doubt wants to fight against our faith.

I love how Jesus ends this quick teaching moment, because after teaching on speaking to mountains and asking & believing that you have received. He then also reminds us of the importance of forgiveness. We can see here that although doubt will fight against faith, it is walking in forgiveness that will fight doubt and allow our faith to thrive.

Later on Tuesday, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives. There He gave many powerful teachings that we have today. We encourage you to take the time to read through the teachings starting in Mark 11:20, all the way to Mark 13:37.

Grace & Peace,
