holy wednesday

The Scriptures do not explicitly state what Jesus did on the Wednesday of Holy Week. Some scholars speculate after two full days of ministry in Jerusalem, Jesus and his disciples spent this day resting in the town of Bethany awaiting the Feast of Passover.

This brings about a few thoughts. First, what was Jesus processing as He knew the time was drawing closer to fulfill His purpose? Secondly, have you ever thought about the fact that we live in a culture that often puts more emphasis on potential over purpose? Think about it, Jesus didn’t live up to His potential… His potential as God in the flesh was that He could have avoided the cross and fought and defeated the Romans in His arrest. He had the supernatural power to do so. But Jesus didn’t fulfill the potential within Him, because He was more concerned with being obedient to the Father to fulfill His purpose.

Each and every one of us have an individual purpose from God on our lives. Those purposes are all wrapped up in the very thing Jesus did – obedience to the Father’s Will. Holy Week should remind us that God wants to bring about His purpose in our lives as we walk in obedience to Him and His Word. Be reminded today that loving God is wrapped up in our obedience to Him.

1 John 5:3-4

3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

We pray today that purpose would reign over potential in your life, and that God’s purpose would be revealed in greater ways to you as you Walk in obedience as Jesus did.

Grace & Peace,
